NASCAR Xfinity Series Sonoma DFS Picks

NASCAR heads out west this week for a second straight race where drivers will turn left and right. The Xfinity series is in Sonoma this week for another road course race this season. We once again have the road course aces of Shane Van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch in the field this week so we are likely to see domination from those two.

Potential Dominators

Shane Van Gisbergen

Connor Zilisch

SVG and Zilisch have been the fastest road racers in NASCAR this season and they showed nothing will change this week as they both start on the front row. SVG is the favorite starting on pole and is likely to be the one to lead laps up front and win the race. But if someone is going to challenge him or if SVG is just a little off this weekend, it will be Zilisch as the driver to battle him and be the other driver that could lead laps and win this race. It is going to be difficult to fit both in your lineups with having several other solid place differential plays in the mid salary range for DFS this week. Using one of them and having a more balanced lineup is likely the better play this week.

Place Differential Plays

Austin Hill

Riley Herbst

Christian Eckes

Nick Sanchez

Austin Green

Austin Hill has been a solid road racer in his career and should be a top option behind the top race winning contenders in the field. He starts 16th and had top 5 speed in practice so he should move forward and run in the top 10 with top 5 upside if he can not have any issues. Another driver who had top 5 speed in practice was Christian Eckes. Eckes has been running well on road courses as of late and he starts back in 21st giving him a lot of place differential potential this week. Herbst is in the Gibbs 19 car this week and he has gotten a lot better on road courses in his career. He didn’t show great speed in practice but I would expect him to run top 10 in the race and could be a lower owned option this week. Sanchez has been solid this season and starting mid pack this week he should be a good place differential play. Green is a great road racer and has been a top 15 driver on road courses the last few seasons. He starts towards the back in 33rd and is a great place differential option this week.

Cheap Options

Dean Thompson

Daniel Dye

Jeremy Clements

Brennan Poole

Parker Retzlaff

Sage Karam

There are some huge place differential options for the cheaper drivers this week. Thompson has had top 15 runs at the recent road courses and he starts back in 35th this week. He is a great option to get a lot of place differential points this week. Dye is in the same boat as he has had similar runs and starts back in 31st making him a good option this week as well. Clements is a good road racer if he can avoid issues which has been a problem on road courses recently. But he starts in 30th and should have at least top 20 potential if he can stay clean this week. Poole finished 10th on the streets of Chicago last week and should be a good flier play this week starting back in 32nd. Parker Retzlaff and Brad Perez are two other good flier plays starting in the back as well. The most important factor for these flier plays are staying out of trouble and having good strategy to get track position by the end of the race. Karam is a great road racer and is a great play at his salary if his equipment stay together. He starts in 26th and should have top 15 potential if he doesn't have any issues with the car or gets in an incident.
