The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads outside of the US for a race for the first time in a while as the series is in Mexico City this weekend. Teams had some travel issues delaying them getting there so teams will practice, qualify, and race all in the same day. There are only 65 laps so dominators won't be as important and place differential and finishing position will be key.
Potential Dominators
Connor Zilisch
Ty Gibbs
Zilisch was the favorite coming into the weekend and he backed it up in practice as he was one of the fastest cars. I expect him to potentially dominate the field as he will be one of the fastest, if not the fastest car in the race, and is one of the best road racers in NASCAR right now. Ty Gibbs is another driver who is really good on road courses and had really good speed in the practice session. He should be upfront and be a contender to lead laps and should be one of the drivers to battle Zilisch for the win. Gibbs and Zilisch seemed to be the best two cars by far in practice as they were the top two on the speed charts and lap averages.
Place Differential Plays
Daniel Suarez
Christian Eckes
Anthony Alfredo
Daniel Dye
Suarez wrecked in qualifying before he could get a lap in so he will be starting in the back likely in a backup car. Disappointing for him in his own country but this will give him huge place differential potential for the race and he will be a popular option for DFS. His backup may not be as good as his original car but I would think he should still be good enough for top 10 potential in the race. Eckes starts way in the back but he had solid lap averages in practice. He should move forward and be a great option for the race as well. Alfredo is another that wrecked but they are fixing his primary car but he did not get to go out and qualify. He starts in the back and is a solid road racer so if he can even run in the top 20 he will be a great place differential play. Dye starts back in 29th so he has a lot of room to move forward and I would expect him to do so. He had solid speed in practice and should be a good play for this race.
Cheap Options
Austin Green
Ryan Sieg
Parker Retzlaff
Brennan Poole
Josh Williams
Green has had some great runs on road courses when he gets in this car for Jordan Anderson Racing. He starts in 14th so he is more of a tournament play but I would not be shocked to see him run in the top 10. Alex Labbe is another solid tournament play that starts in 21st and is a top road racer in the series. Sieg is not the best road racer but he has a knack for getting track position and ending up with a solid finish. He starts back in 30th so he has a ton of place differential potential and should be a solid option today. Retzlaff, Poole, and Williams are kind of in the same boat. None are great road racers but I think this is going to be a race where you have to take care of your equipment and stay out of trouble. If these drivers do that, they start way in the back that a top 20 finish could be a big points day in DFS for them.
